As you approach this attraction in Frontierland, the dessert mountain will come into view. Stepping into the queue line, you’re immediately transported to the American Gold Rush era. While waiting for your turn to ride Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped back in time. Be sure to look out for some interactive fun while you wait and stroll past dynamite, portraits of trains, barrels, and more before climbing aboard. When the train pulls up and the gate opens, hop in and take your seat.  The train’s wheels chug back and forth, transporting you through a dark tunnel.  Speed through winding caves and tunnels, dipping and dropping, twisting and turning through desert scenery. Traveling through the haunted ghost town of Tumbleweed, keep your eyes open. You never know what you might see.

Legend has it that a supernatural force has a hold of this Mountain. A mining company was established in the 1850s, the same time gold was being discovered. Miners began hearing eerie sounds and spying runaway driverless trains speeding through the mountain. What could make such things happen? Word spread that it was supernatural in nature, resulting in Big Thunder transforming into a ghost town. Did you experience any supernatural activity along your trip? Keep that folklore on the tip of your tongue for the young-ins one day, until they can take the train and make up their minds for themselves.
