When The Story Comes Alive…
You are standing in the middle of the hub in front of Cinderella’s castle with thousands of people all around you. All of a sudden the lights on the castle go down and a musical note swells in the air. For the next 18 minutes, you are regaled with a nighttime spectacular featuring lasers, projections, and fireworks.
As a diehard fan of Wishes, the previous nighttime show at Magic Kingdom, I was more than hesitant about Disney replacing something I had loved since I was a kid, but when Happily Ever After began entertaining families in the Magic Kingdom on May 12, 2017 I was more than pleased. The story begins with some of our favorite Disney characters celebrating dreams of hope and wonder. Disney villains then come along to try and squash those hopes and dreams. But, as with all fairy tales, our heroes and heroines live happily ever after and are celebrated in a brilliant finale of fireworks.
One of the most impressive feats of Happily Ever After are the projections displayed on Cinderella’s Castle. Scenes from over 25 different Disney movies light up the castle with state of the art projections. One of my favorite features is how each movie scene seamlessly melds into another. My personal favorite is as you are listening to “You’ll Be In My Heart” there are scenes from movies with parents and their children, such as Finding Dory and Dumbo. As a newer parent, I admit I may have started crying at this point!
Disney music is timeless, and the 75 person orchestra that recorded the score for the show did an amazing job sending you on a journey of joy, love, friendship, and adventure. The main song “Happily Ever After” is sung by Jordan Fisher and Angie Keilhauer, two recording artists. They use their voices to uplift and encourage you to pursue your own dreams and find YOUR happily ever after.
You must see this show. It is Disney magic at its finest. Tinkerbell flies across the sky, love conquers all, good triumphs over evil, and our favorite characters are on display in an innovative fashion with projection mapping on the castle accompanied by the impeccable timing of fireworks. This is the perfect ending to a perfect day at Magic Kingdom.
